Corriechoille Cabins

Over the winter of 2001/2 we constructed two Log Cabins within the grounds of the Lodge, to provide luxury self catering accommodation. You can see how the work progressed on our timeline page. The Cabins are reached by footpath from our courtyard, sited in a field extending to around 3/4 of an acre and enjoying completely uninterrupted views towards the mountains beyond.

The Cabins

Our two log cabins are set in a beautifully secluded location in the Scottish Highlands. Cruach Innse (Stack of the Meadow) and Cnap Cruinn (Little Round Hill), named after the two mountains that they overlook, are constructed of pine logs and covered with turf roofs.

The environment was at the forefront when we designed the cabins. Their construction is from natural and sustainable materials wherever possible. The insulation properties of these materials are such that the heating of the buildings will be as efficient as possible, and their appearance allows the new buildings to blend sympathetically with their surroundings.

Each cabin is identical in design and is equipped as follows:

Towels, linen, electricity, an initial supply of washing liquid and dishwasher powder, and your first basket of wood are all included in weekly rental fee.

The Location

Corriechoille is located 2¼ miles from the village of Spean Bridge, which lies on the main A82 Fort William to Inverness road (see our Travel Page for more details). The site is rural and secluded, away from street lights, built up areas and main roads. To the back of the cabins is Glen Spean and the River Spean below. From the front Lairig Leacach, an old droving route, can be seen winding into the mountains towards the spectacular Grey Corries and Aonach Mor. The nearby village of Spean Bridge has a general store, seasonal Tourist Information Office, Post Office, Railway Station, hotels and restaurants. Fort William is 12 miles to the SW and has all facilities.

The Attractions

There is plenty to do locally whatever your interests, and the location of Corriechoille also makes it an ideal base for touring the Highlands. The Lodge itself has spectacular views, and there are a number of walks from the doorstep passing through terrains and scenery as varied as woodland, waterways, farmland and rugged mountain passes. You could also start your walk by taking the train from Spean Bridge, which will take you right into the heart of the countryside on the famous West Highland Line. Further north on the line, there is a steam train that runs in the Summer between Fort William and Mallaig.

In Spean Bridge you will find the Woollen Mill and Commando Museum. The village has its own golf course and fishing is available locally on the several lochs and the River Spean, which is also well known for its white water canoeing runs. A short distance to the SW you can visit the remains of Highbridge, where the uprising of 1745 began, or take a trip on the Aonach Mor gondola to enjoy the skiing in the Winter or the spectacular scenery in the Summer. If you are feeling energetic, you could aim even higher and head for Ben Nevis. Further afield, but all within easy reach for a day trip, you can see spectacular Glencoe, travel the Road to the Isles, visit Skye or take a trip to the famous Loch Ness.

Have a look at our Touring Guide for some more ideas of things do do on your holiday.
